solarpunkfairy: a fairy person with a pink mullet and pointed ears peeks at the viewer suspiciously from the foliage (forest eyes)

My tumblr got wiped (and revived!) 🌱 (#Y25M05D12)

(EDIT: The tumblr got reinstated! c: I'll continue being active there BUT I'll also be spreading roots in other places as I discuss in this post. c: I am filled with inspiration after this experience. Anyhoos, thank you for being here!)

I opened my solarpunkfairy tumblr around pandemic time.

The motivation came from a sudden realization that in order to survive the toxicity of today's grim culture, I needed to be intentional, and find a piece of myself in an opposing counterculture.

And amidst the sea of cynicism and the hopelessness of the "we live in a cyberpunk future" memes, I had a eureka moment.

I remembered an image I saw years before that looked a lot like this.

And the spark ignited. To fight “-punk” with “-punk.” To reflect on what “punk” really means to me in terms of ideals. The realization that I had the choice to give in to cynicism, or I could move through the world guided by that "solarpunk" idea I had come across years before.

It immediately occurred to me that I could not be alone in this "eureka" moment. And after some digging, I found a bright and emerging community, with a manifesto of refreshingly constructive values and grit; people mending rips to make their clothes last longer, cultivating their home gardening skills, upcycling, DIYing, teaching each other useful skills, and fostering the value of education.
My heart felt renewed.

I picked my niche-interest social media of choice that I was already familiar with (tumblr) and proceeded to curate it with educational resources, solarpunk art, environmentalist ideas, hopepunk, DIY posts, anti fascist rhetoric, and whatever else I could find.

Until today. My blog just disappeared in the middle of posting to it.

May have been an error but I think I got hacked. I saw an unfamiliar location in the login history before I refreshed the page and it disappeared. I took some precautions but the best I can do is to enact caution.

Tbh, I expected something like this to happen from the moment I made the tumblr, given its heavy bounty of leftist posts against the rise of blatant fascism in the 2020s. Still, it still caught me off guard. I expected false report take-downs, not a straight-up hacking violation.

I shed a couple of tears for the long hours I spent organizing the tags for easier user navigation, and curating the collection of useful resources. I wish I had made the backups months/years ago, like I intended to.

But hindsight is 20/20. It is what it is and we move forward. That’s the point of all of this. Not giving up!

I will continue to share educational resources, mutual aid, inspiration, hope, and everything else that comes along my way that aligns with what solarpunk means to me.

And I’ll be even more persistent about it.

So hi, solar buds (new and old)! :)
Welcome to my solarpunkfairy garden.
Less active (for now) but it’s me:

Keep learning. Keep growing.
Hope is an act of rebellion. 🌱

PS: I contacted tumblr to see if something can be done to retrieve the sideblog. Not holding my breath though. It sucks, because the blog had like 400+ followers. It was nice to feel people cared about the same values. But I’ll be hopeful. Maybe we’ll find each other again.
